Even then when he steps outside of his house, his father is usually hard at work around the Village in multiple forms. Ungrateful in the term would be him not showing gratitude for his father, however you can't really expect Boruto to just be okay with his father rarely coming home, and when he does come home, is too exhausted on most occasions to spend time with his family. I think that Kishimoto in regards to the children is not really saying that the child in this case (Boruto) is ungrateful of what Naruto has done, but that he doesn't really understand the choices his father makes. Even someone who neglects their parents to hang out with their friends, or a kid who blissfully annoys their parents to keep spending money on them without thinking of the cost. In my opinion there is no such thing as an ungrateful child.
